“Roo” aka “Buckaroo” 10yr old buckskin gelding. Where to begin… Roo is a sweet, trusty, crossbred gelding standing at 15.3hh. He has been used for fox hunting, hunter paces, sorting & moving cattle, parades, trail ridden and more. He is the same horse whether he sits for weeks or is ridden every day. You can saddle him up and ride off on a loose rein every time. He does not crib, weave, buck, rear, bite, etc.
Roo is a great size, not too big, not too small, heavy boned enough to be hardy but still light enough on his feet to be a beautiful mover and great jumper!
We have jumped him up to 3 feet without a problem. He is willing, honest and forgiving, and doesn’t pull or rush into jumps which makes him a super fun horse to use in hunts and hunter paces. He has a big trot and a nice uphill canter, but would gladly spend the day walking on the trails if that’s more your speed.
On the trails Roo will lead or follow in a group, taking up the front, middle, or back, or go out on his own without any issues. He will cross bridges, water crossings, step over logs, etc. He has been ridden down the road and is safe with traffic. He is not spooky on the trails when it comes to deer, squirrels, people, dogs, and everything else we’ve encountered on our rides. He is the type you can just drop the reins and let him walk but you don’t have to constantly bump him with your legs to keep him going. Wave your arms around, ride him side saddle, ride him backwards and play cards on his butt, he really couldn’t care much less.
Roo has been fox hunted and did fantastic. He stood patiently during checks, jumped everything I asked him to, and didn’t mind the hounds walking on his heels at times.
Roo can be ridden English, western, or bareback, in a simple snaffle or even a rope halter. He will walk, trot, canter, yields to your leg, moves his shoulders, and picks up both leads. He is responsive but not too forward and will ride on a loose rein in all three gaits. He is uncomplicated and easy to ride!
Roo is an easy going, trustworthy gelding who would do well in pretty much anything you’d ask of him.
On the ground he stands to be tacked, bathed, brushed, picks up all four feet, etc. on the cross ties or straight tied. Kids have brushed, handled, and ridden him with supervision and he didn’t miss a beat. He also loads and trailers well.
Roo is up to date on his vaccines, coggins, dewormer, and farrier. He is sound and has no known health issues.
